New Arrivals

On Monday we welcomed three new volunteers from Holland, Ytsje, Martine & Lieke who will be working with us for the next four weeks. Lieke is however staying for eight weeks & will be joined by three others when Ytsje & Martine leave.

As usual, there is a lot for them to take in initially and as they are here for such a short time, the orientation process is quite intense as it is worked through fairly quickly. But after two nights of vivid dreams they are already out accompanying our community volunteers on their home visits for today (+-15) & very eager to be a part of the work.

We hope their stay is a good & productive one, & also an encouragement to others who are considering getting involved or contributing in some way.

"At the Emanuel Teens Club on Wednesday we kicked off with a few fun games that the guys enjoy before doing a recap of last week’s topic – The Importance of Education. It was encouraging to hear what they remembered & how they have tried to apply it in their lives. It was also really encouraging to see a few teens who we last saw in June – they came back because they realised that coming to the club was good for them!

This week’s topic was “How to Choose Positively Influential Friends”. We spoke about how we first need to know who we really are and how only God can best reveal that to us. Then we gave & discussed real examples of choosing good & bad friends in our lives.

We also discussed 2 Corinthians 4 vs 1-9 and how we need to build strong character in ourselves, especially as we are approaching the end of the school year where we need to apply ourselves to our studies and not be badly influenced by our friends, & also the festive season after that when it is so easy to get involved in destructive behaviour.

The program ended off with some singing, prayers & a few more games."
