This past week the Ubomi Obutsha Centre was host to and catered for a training workshop for volunteers from various community based organisations that work with orphaned or vulnerable children (OVC’s) resulting from HIV/AIDS.

These workshops tend to disrupt wost of our regular programs but we are thankful to be fortunate enough to have the facility where we can do this and use the opportunity as a fundraiser for much needed income to help cover our costs.

It’s actually wonderful to see how our community volunteers, many of whom were themselves once beneficiaries of the Centre, step up and take full responsibility to get everything done the best that they can, and they really do an amazing job!

Home visits of the most critical OVC’s we look out for do continue however, food parcels are still distributed to where they need to go and work in our food garden carries on as usual.

I think it is worth mentioning here how well the food garden is working at the moment! Our water tank has a leak (!) but we’re working on it. The garden itself is looking very good and producing regular harvests which are used for feeding and sold to help cover input costs. Not only this, but the garden works so well at giving people, living in desperate circumstances, the opportunity to turn their lives around by being a part of something productive and of which they can be proud!
